I received a lovely question from an Instagram follower. It was on my thoughts as to why people are so compliant and obedient, and whether she is herself a nutbar for thinking differently. In this video, I explain why people are so obedient and conformist.
This whole scandemic has certainly brought the true essence of people to the surface. Apply pressure and see whether it creates a diamond or it shatters.
@Brendan, this is brilliant. I have struggled to understand some aspects of obedience, particularly in relation to authority. None of my friends took the injection, and some lost their jobs etc. However, majority of them are from Eastern Europe some Ozzies, but first generaton of immigrants. And in us, there is an ingrained distrust towards governments, authority, mandates, police, etc. As we have historically experienced that the above are certianly not to be blindly trusted, as they have, cheated, manipulated, played people and are at times very fond of bribary, lying, decit, etc.
Opportunistic bunch for sure, given the half-chance.
However, current Australians have never ever experienced major crisis like the world war, civil war, real economic crisis and poverty (and by the way, not having 3/4 extra hot skinny soy latte at 8:17AM is NOT a crisis : ) So I see this naive, gullible side in people here. Pathological level of suggestibility maybe as well. There is simply no reference point that THIS can happen, that the government might be saying porkies ot simply weaving the story for the profit or status or their agenda...
I used to say to my lovely Aussies, when they dramatize about something alike their latte crisis or some trinket, too good is sometimes not too good...
Some great points covered in this video...it's so easy to fall into thinking: how can all these people be so stupid?! ...but there is a lot more complexity to the situation. I have been feeling very frustrated with some friends and family and this video I'm sure will help me to be more patient. Thankyou!
This has honestly been one of the hardest things to accept with regards to friends and family. The lack of empathy for anyone that doesn't conform is quite frightening and the actual joy some feel seeing non-conformists being punished...makes me sad. So I found this video very interesting...

Thanks Julie. I think this is one of the things that is terrifying. Give some people who have a disposition toward rigidity and authoritarianism a little power and they go berserk. These kinds of policies are made for these kinds of people. Unfortunately.
And, yet, us sunny, flexible non-conformists keep shining on ... That's the beautiful other side of the coin.
@Pauline, nicely said : )
